Why Visit?

Why Visit St. Michael and All Angels?

  1. Kingsland Church is a Grade 1 listed building, constructed in the early English style, and largely unchanged since completion in 1310
  2. The Royal Commission on Monuments in 1934, mentions Kingsland as ‘especially worthy of preservation, and highlighted the ‘Volka Chapel and good glass’
  3. The Chancel has been described as the ‘artistic treasure house of St Michaels’ and features a remarkable painted barrel roof.
  4. The most influential Victorian architect, G.F.Bodley, renowned for his work on churches was responsible for the Chancel roof and many other internal changes. The Nave roof was uncovered, and pews introduced as part of his work between 1866 and 1868.
  5. In 2021, the entire building underwent a major restoration to conserve and preserve many of its features, and enhance the beauty of its stained glass windows.
  6. Within walking distance there are two excellent pubs and village shop with tea rooms, to repair to after your visit!

We welcome visitors of all ages, religions and backgrounds.
